Macauley Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2014
18 Months French & American Oak
Here we go, the 580 cases of Zin our loyal customers have been waiting for. We have increased production conservatively, but we don’t expect to be able to satisfy all requests. If you’re new to the Old Vine, the best description I think of is that it’s complex enough to impress but versatile enough to accompany just about any pasta, pizza or red-meat dish you can create with the contents of your refrigerator. We call it our “Wednesday Night Wine.” It’s universal in nature and affordable in price and those are probably the two reasons you’ll find it on menus at everything from Indian curry houses to Italian restaurants. The 2014 Old Vine comes from pre-prohibition vineyards; the youngest progeny hail from a 1904 planting in Calistoga. The end results are well-weathered red fruit notes, and a bouquet of dried strawberry. Not overly pushy, or brooding, it opens up with zippy and fresh flavors of briar, cola, and white pepper. We made this wine to be consumed now, but if you happen to find one in the recesses of your cellar 15 years from, it will be quite drinkable.
