Macauley Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2011
Russian River Valley
June 3rd, 2013
This straw white Burgundy opens up like my favorite left bank bakery in Paris. The warm and inviting aromas of honey, chef confection, rising dough, baked apples and pear.Is a lot to inhale at first but the comforting smells are so inviting. On the palate you are instantly aware of the citrus, green apple and tropical flavors from where this wine is from. In the Green Valley of Russian River, the powdery and ancient Goldridge soils mature brilliant and crisp whites. It is the perfect cool climate place for Wente Clone Chardonnay. We at Macauley do something a little different with the wine where we ferment and surlies age our Chardonnay in equal parts concrete, stainless stell and oak cooperage. Each piece imparts a flavor that builds the whole. The finish has a zip and length that I love and expect to see evolve very nicely for four to seven more years if cellared correctly.
